Double Feature Weekend... Abducted Dolphin Tale

This weekend I took in two features, Abduction and Dolphin Tale. Of the two I am sure you can figure out which one was the better one... While Abduction was, in my opinion, a minor league action movie that had the attraction of the loyal Twilight Saga fan base, which I am not knocking as I am a diehard Twi-hard through and through, Dolphin Tale can attract and please families and adults alone just the same with this heartwarming story that is truly inspiring.

Friday night my girlfriends and I took in the Taylor Lautner movie, Abduction. While I had seen a few previews, I thought it looked really good and really wanted to see it since I like so many varieties of movies. I was a little discouraged when I saw the Rotten Tomatoes rating and it was 0% positive... and then later in the day it had increased to 4%, still not very good at all. This is Taylor's first big screen movie as the main actor since the Twilight Saga, while Robert Pattinson has had 2 successful, in my eyes at least.

Abduction is slightly predictable, with amateur actors as the main characters. Lautner plays Nathan Harper who finds out his parents are not who they say they are after researching missing children for a research paper. His partner and love interest Karen Murphy, played by Lilly Collins, witness the murders of his "parents" and are on the run. While Nathan and Karen are not sure why they are being chased, they are approached by two different CIA operatives and not sure who to trust. This movie is about Nathan figuring out who he is and what happened to his real parents. It wasn't terrible and I truly think Lautner has potential for action movies like Jason Statham. I give this movie 3.5 stars out of 5, and maybe a wait for the DVD.

And today my mom and I took my 3 kids to see Dolphin Tale. My kids are 12, 9, and 7, and my daughter, the 7 year old, was really excited to see this movie. This movie was so wonderful! We opted not to see it in 3D, as my 9 year old Nathan gets headaches from 3D movies. Dolphin Tale is inspired by a true story and stars "Winter" the dolphin the movie is centered around.

The main character is Sawyer Nelson, an 11 year old boy who is very closed off emotionally and socially withdrawn. Sawyer says goodbye to his cousin Kyle in the beginning of the movie, as he is going off to the Army, and is sad about losing his cousin. On his way to his summer school English class, a man calls for Sawyer's attention as he had just found Winter washed on to the beach. She had been tangled up in a crab trap and severely hurt. The man that got Sawyer's attention called 911, who contacted the marine animal hospital in the area.

Sawyer and Winter had a connection since the moment he cut the ropes free. The marine animal hospital arrives and Sawyer meets Dr. Clay, played by Harry Connick Jr., and his daughter Hazael. Dr. Clay, Hazel, and their team take him to their facilities. Sawyer sneaks into the marine animal hospital and see that WInter isn't doing too well. Upon Sawyer's arrival Winter immediately perks up, which shocks Dr. Clay. So Sawyer sticks around and starts to open up and creates relationships with the people that for at the marine animal hospital, and eventually stops going to summer school. Sawyer's mom, played by Ashley Judd, finds out and gets upset at first, but once she see's what Winter and the time he has spent there has done for her son she becomes ok with him missing summer school.

As the movie progresses, you learn of a tragic event that happens to his cousin Kyle and then to Winter with her damaged tale. Dolphin Tale was emotional and funny, heartwarming and inspiring. All three of my kids, my mom and I thought this movie was so good. I am not gonna lie, I cried at lead 3 times, but I am crier... This movie will not disappoint adults or children, I feel it touches each in a different way and inspires both not to give up on your dreams, that anything is possible if you don't give up. GO. SEE. THIS. MOVIE. I obviously give this one 5 stars out 5!!!

What movies have you seen the weekend, or recently?

Drive on in to your theater!

It's been a while since I have reviewed a movie on here, even though I have seen a few since the last review. So I decided I would review the movie I saw this past weekend, Drive. I had seen only a few previews for this movie and what I saw looked good, I mean Ryan Gosling alone is enough to get me in the theater to see this movie! Saturday night my husband and I decided to take in a movie, and Drive was what we decided on.

Drive is a movie about a guy, whose name is never mentioned and I assume is "Driver", who is a stunt car driver and mechanic by day and part-time get away driver at night. Ryan Gosling is the "Driver", who is a man of little words. The opening scene was intense and pretty awesome, then it has a slow build into violent action packed second half.

Driver works for Shannon, a garage owner and builds the stunt cars for the movies in which Driver does the stunt work. Shannon gets in business with 2 men, a former movie producer from the 80's and a thug played by Ron Pearlman. He wants Driver to race cars and needs there help for funding of a car and race entry fees. They reluctantly agree and get in business right as Driver becomes friendly with his neighbor and her son.

Driver meets his neighbor Irene, played by Carey Mulligan, and her son, Benicio, and her husband is in prison and about to be released. It's hard not to see the budding romance between Driver and Irene right as her husband "Standard" is released from prison.

About 20 minutes into the movie my husband leans over and asks, "where is this movie going?" Not long after my husband asks this question does it start to get going... and take a turn into the Scarface type of violence. And with all the violence, Driver never uses a gun... and boy is he sexy!

This movie had received raving reviews about how awesome this movie is and that it is what The Fast and the Furious movies should been like. Yes, there was driving, no Paul Walker or Vin Diesel driving, but still it was a action packed movie with a touch of a love story for us ladies dragged kicking and screaming to see a Ryan Gosling movie, hahaha. Not only was the movie great, the music in the movie was awesome!!!

Go see this movie, you won't be disappointed! Fast car driving, hot guy, with love and action, and a great soundtrack! I give this movie 4.5 stars out of 5!

Haul/Review: Sleek MakeUP

Sleek released a new permanent collection featuring an eye shadow palette, blush and pout polish called the “Nude Collection Au Naturel”, so I had to jump on it! I love my Urban Decay “Naked Palette”, so I was super excited about a nude collection by Sleek. Sleek has quickly become my second favorite brand of makeup… they are highly pigmented and blend easily. While placing my order I was like what the heck, I am going to pick up the blushes that I wanted the last time I ordered. So I picked up a eye shadow palette, a pout polish and 5 blushes, 7 items total.

The Nude Collection
Pout Polish, Blush and Eye Shadow Palette
First thing I want to review is the eye shadow palette. As usual the eye shadow palette contains 12 shadows, including the typical black aka “Noir”. Of the 12 shadows, 8 are matte and 4 have shimmer.  These shadows are mineralized and go on very smooth. This palette will be great for everyday and work or school appropriate.
Au Naturel Palette
Top L-R: Nougat, Nubuck, Cappuccino, Honeycomb, Toast, Taupe
Bottom L-R: Conker, Moss, Bark, Mineral Earth, Regal, Noir
Now the pout polish… which is a tinted lip conditioner. The name of the pout polish is “Bare Minimum” and it is very nude. It is a pinky nude and goes on without much color, which is fine by me as I don’t like loud colors on my lips.

Bare Minimum - Pout Polish
And finally the blushes!!! Probably the thing I am the most excited about. I purchased 5, yes FIVE!!! I got the one that is included in the collection and it is called “Suede”. It is a warm nude, brown color that looks like a contour shade, but it is actually very pretty and adds warmth to your face. Then there is “Pixie Pink”, which looks like a bright pink, but it is actually a very pretty pink once blended out. Next I got “Life’s a Peach” which is really what the name says, peach! It is very pretty and not too peachy or orange.  All three of these are a matte finish.

Suede - Blush
Pixie Pink - Blush
Life's a Peach - Blush
The two blushes are a satin finish and just make your face glow! First is “Pomegranate” and it is like a dark fuchsia, pink color. And the last color I got was “Rose Gold”. This color is so beautiful and probably my favorite! Before I ordered I read a lot of blogs and watched several YouTube videos featuring these blushes, as the website does not give you the best swatch to go off of. Through my research I kept reading that “Rose Gold” was very similar to NARS “Orgasm”. They do look similar, however “Orgasm” has more pink tones to it and “Rose Gold” has more peach or coral tones. I like them both, but “Rose Gold” has a better pay off in color than “Orgasm” on my skin.

Pomegranate - Blush

Rose Gold - Blush

L: NARS Orgasm Blush (0.16 oz and $27)
R: Sleek Rose Gold (0.24 oz and $6.50)
I love all the products I received! The prices are awesome and shipping isn’t bad either. The palette is $10.50 (USD), the pout polish and blushes are $6.50 (USD) each. The shipping prices and options have changed, for which I am thankful! The last time I ordered it was a flat $13.50 (USD) to ship to the US, as they are located in the UK, and it was regardless of how much product you ordered. And the time it took to reach you was 7-10 business days, which it literally took 10 days for me to get my first order. Well now you have the option of standard or 2nd day shipping! The standard shipping price has dropped to $10.00 (USD, and still takes 7-10 business days, and the 2nd day shipping is $20.00 (USD). If you haven’t tried Sleek, try it! If you have, what are your favorite products?

Just a quick "Thank You" to my inspiration...

I have wanted to blog about makeup, movies and really anything that pops into my head for so long that I really thought I would never do it. I watch and subscribe to several beauty gurus on YouTube that give me the courage to try things I would never have known how to do and without them my love for makeup and beauty would not exist.

Combine that with the amazing support from my husband, I wouldn't be here blogging about my passion. I hope to breakout on to YouTube, but I am awfully shy and scared of the haters that I see plaguing my favorite people who are amazingly talented.

So, thank you MakeupByTiffanyD, my first guru, MakeupbyMel, MakeupByAlli, MissJenFABULOUS, DucleCandy87, and ThatGirlShaeXo for inspiring me. And I am just one of many that you lovely ladies have touched and inspired.

Thanks ;) Shannon

Life Changing Foundation Brush!

A few weeks ago I placed an order with Sigma for the first time. Let me tell, I was so impressed by my products and Sigma... they put my MAC brushes to shame! And the price!

Packaged so nicely! Set is in blue, individual brushed and free gift are in red.
I order their Sigmax brushes, as I have been dying to try these out! They are syntheic brushes that are specially designed to apply powder and liquid products without absorption into the fibers, giving the HD appearance. The brushes can be ordered inividually for $16 each or $42 for a set of three. The set includes a flat top kabuki (F80), the round top kabuki (F82) and the angled kabuki (F84).

L-R: F82 Round Top Kabuki and F84 Angled Kabuki
The F80 Flat Top Kabuki has changed everything about my foundation application! It buffs out the product so flawlessly that it looks natural. The Sigmax brushes are so dense they require less product, making a little go a long way! If I could only purchase one of these brushes, the F80 would be it!

F80 - Flat Top Kabuki
I also ordered the Large Powder brush (F20), the Tappered Blending brush (E35) and the Blending brush (E25). The face brushes vary in price, ranging from $9 to $25. The eye brushes are all $9 each. Sigma also offers a variety of sets for affordable prices. You can order a complete set of 12 brushes, eyes and face, for $79! Or they have sets for eyes, face, eyes & face, travel and premium brushes.
F20 - Large Powder Brush
E35 - Tapered Blending Brush
E25 - Blending Brush
I will never buy another MAC brush again! I received six brushes for the cost of probably three MAC brushes... maybe.

Shipping was great! They ship worldwide, which is awesome! I live in the US and received my products within a week, with standard mail rates. They even sent me a free gift for my purchase of at least $75! A little mini eye shadow palette, featuring a shade from there new Dare, Bare and Flare palettes... Which I will be picking up soon!

The free gift, so cute!!!
Overall I couldn't be happier and cannot wait to try more of their proucts! I will keep you updated on everything I try with a review, but only after I have really tried them out. I think it is only fair to use a product for a period of time to truly give a thorough review.
